The Warriors lost 4-2 to the Boston Terriers on Saturday afternoon after 60 minutes of physical play.
"We just ran out of gas in the third period, we can't have that when we're playing at this level." coach Jim Fetter said.
The game began in favor of the Terriers with an early goal by forward Jenelle Kohanchuk just 15 seconds into the first period. Kohanchuk was the sole goal scorer for the Terriers; she scored four goals and earned her first career hat trick.
Early in the second period, Wayne State forward Alyssa Baldin scored a goal through the slot after the Warriors trailed by two. Katrina Protopapas also scored her third career goal, tying the game on a power play.
Protopapas's goal gained some momentum for the Warriors, which didn't last. The Terriers took a time out and capitalized on a power play opportunity that put them ahead a goal heading into the third period.
The Terriers then went up by two after another power-play goal by Kohanchuk, which was fed precisely from linemate Jonnie Bloemers.
The Warriors also struggled a bit on their penalty kill, after being scored on three times.
"Those are things we haven't worked a whole lot on, we've been working on our defensive zone and our fore-check," Fetter explained.
